The Pro Verzasca wool production chain

The wool processed by Pro Verzasca goes on a complex journey, passing through various stages of processing, all of it balanced between tradition and innovation. On one hand, the artisanal know-how has its roots deep in local history; on the other, collaboration with a partner such as SUPSI has made it possible to develop a low-temperature, ultrasound washing technique.
These features have allowed the Pro Verzasca wool production chain to be recognised as an alpine reference point for wool processing.

Main processing stages

  1. Washing
The raw wool, dirty and full of impurities, is cleaned in a sustainable way.
  2. Dyeing
The clean wool takes on natural colours thanks to plants, flowers, roots and bark.
  3. Carding
The fibres are aligned and further cleaned, producing a soft web of wool.
  4. Spinning
Carried out at home, where the carded wool becomes a quality yarn.
  5. Knitting
This stage also takes place at home, creating unique, handcrafted garments.
  6. Needle felting and other techniques
Felting techniques and decorations, where craftsmanship meets creativity.
  7. Packaging and sale
The finished product returns to Sonogno, where it is offered to visitors in the “Craft Shop”.
